Exhibition: Don’t Tell: The #Metoo Art of Helen Murdock-Prep
When I was in high school, I was startled out of my senior year when my teacher begin sexually abusing me. He told me not to tell. I didn’t. But I wrote about all that was happening in my diary. This interactive installation is my attempt to embody all that followed, set in physical form. In 2017, when #MeToo shook the world awake with its cultural reckoning, I found out I was not alone. I became so angry that sexual harassment, sexual abuse and sexual assault are such a common problem in our society. My outrage has fueled my commitment to bring awareness to this issue through my art. Although this exhibit was made through me and illustrates my experience, it is about us.
Established in 1975, bj spoke gallery is a member owned and run cooperative art gallery and not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization, located at 299 Main St, Huntington, NY. b.j. spoke gallery has been bringing art to the community and community to artists for over 48 years. b.j. spoke strives to further an understanding of the arts by offering; exhibits of our members’ work, two annual national juried art competitions EXPO and PAPERWORKS, Harvest of Artists - a non-juried exhibition for local artists, The Artist Circle, a biweekly meeting open to all artists, Music and Poetry events and more.

Artists in Conversation: Identity, Community, & Culture
Featuring Kelynn Z. Alder and Marlon Lainez
As part its offerings in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the museum is thrilled to offer this exclusive opportunity to meet artists Kelynn Z. Alder and Marlon Lainez and learn more about their work. The artists will have an insightful conversation on topics including immigration, identity, community, and more. The discussion will be moderated by Lisa Sayedi, Heckscher Museum Manager of Docents and Community Outreach. Several works of art by each artist will be on view. The conversation will be followed by a reception in the galleries from 4 - 5 pm.
Kelynn Z. Alder has created portraits of celebrities for editorials such as The New Yorker, documented sideshow performers in Coney Island, and traveled extensively to portray Aboriginals elders of Australia, tribal warriors of Papua New Guinea, and the Lacandon Mayan of the Mexican rainforest. As a daughter of a Mexican immigrant, her rich cultural ancestry is proudly apparent in her work, along with her concern to advocate for human and anti-discrimination rights for all immigrants. Attempting to bridge cultural gaps through the arts among communities across Long Island and New York, Alder helped found Latino Arts of Long Island. In 2023 Alder curated the award-winning exhibition entitled SOMOS/WE ARE, for the Long Island Museum, an affiliate of the Smithsonian, featuring the works of 82 underrepresented Long Island Latinx artists.
Painter and mixed media artist, Marlon Lainez completed his undergraduate program at Queens College with an Art Education degree, in 2015. He returned to Queens College to receive his Master's in Fine Arts in 2017. Lainez has since been working as an educator in the Long Beach School District and simultaneously continues to work on his art. His inspiration comes from Latin America and traditional folk art but with modern issues as the focal point. His color palette is a major staple in the works, which refers to childhood innocence and the indigenous people of Central America. Ceramics has been a growing medium in Lainez’s work and they have been using this as a way to expand and connect to their background in painting.

A Note from the Artist:
This project has been a uniquely artistically satisfying experience. Through concept, material and techniques assembled over a lifetime, combined with layers of texture, meticulous detail and disturbing imagery I have created a dystopian tribute to the American Carnival, hoping to instill in the viewer a sense of both wonder and amusement mixed with an equal sense of dread and discomfort.
The Huntington Art Center is celebrating 67 years of designing and creating fine Custom Framing! Please join us in our new location! We have moved from 11 to 7 Wall Street! We now have a large, open gallery space and frame design showroom, showing art, photography and fine crafts.
For this Art Walk, we will be showing the paintings of Drigo Morin amongst others. Drigo received his BFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He has also studied at The Art Students League NYC and The Stevenson Academy on Long Island. An oil painter of still life and portraits, he has been concentrating on landscapes the last few years.
“I don’t think you have to go far to find a beautiful passage in nature. Literally look out your front door. How I interpret that in paint will naturally change and evolve with time and ability. I’m looking forward to see where it goes!”
digho is a full service art and design studio with a passion for supporting the arts. Teamed up with neighbor, Lenny Marks, of Len Marks Photography for a perfect space to showcase local art. digho proudly presents this solo show of Huntington artist and digho PAURA member, Caitlyn Dailey.
Caitlyn is a New York based illustrator of colorful things and graphic artist, with a love for all creatures big and small. Since graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology, she has had the pleasure of working with clients on their portraits, patterns, illustrations and design needs. This solo show will highlight her vibrant and unique hand through several of her personal pieces.
Now celebrating its 60th year, the Huntington Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization which enriches the quality of life of Long Islanders with programs and services that address the needs and interests of artists, cultural organizations and the community.

Local artist Robyn Bellospirito suffered a series of strokes in 2022 that left her with mild aphasia, a condition that affects one’s ability to comprehend and form language after a brain injury. Music and art became an easier means of communication and expression, and with the help of an Art Therapist Robyn found peace and healing through art. In addition to this exhibit of Robyn’s paintings, she will be giving an informative and inspiring talk about her experience with art as a therapeutic modality. She says, “My intention is to show those with communication difficulties like aphasia, how they can use art and music to express themselves and feel empowered.”

Spotlight at the Paramount ~ 370 New York Avenue
The Huntington Historical Society’s Soldiers and Sailors Memorial building was built as the town library in 1892. After the library moved to its current location at the other end of Main Street in 1958, the building, still owned by the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Association, was used by the Huntington school district. From 1969 on it became home to the Town Historian. In 2000, the Association donated the building to the Huntington Historical Society. The Society undertook an ambitious eight year restoration project and re-opened it as a museum in 2008.
